Cape Verde
The Republic of Cape Verde, located in Western Africa, is a member of the World Trade Organization. Even though farming serves as the chief economic activity, it is highly confined due to limited rainfall and uncultivable land. Chief crops include bananas, coffee, corn, beans, sweet potatoes, sugarcane and peanuts. However, Cape Verde has to import 80% of its food. Fishing is an important industry and the main catches are lobster and tuna. Livestock are raised including cattle, goats, hogs and sheep. Main industries of the country are food and beverages, fish processing, shoes and garments, salt mining and ship repair. |
